Movies I Like, Too
| Fat Head
Tom Naughton turns the premise of "Supersize Me", which showed the evils
of fast food by eating nothing but McDonald's for a month, on its head.
In this humorous movie, Naughton also ate only fast food for a month,
but instead of just blindly eating whatever was available, he avoided
those foods which science has shown contribute to metabolic problems
like obesity, including sodas, French fries, too much bread, etc. The
result? While eating nothing but double Big Macs and the like, he lost
over 10 pounds and his cholesterol went down. Naughton places
less-deserved blame on Ancel Keys' Seven Countries Study, which
contributed to the over-vilification of saturated fats. |

King Corn: A Documentary Every American Must See
If you are American, did you know that most of the
carbon in your hair (and the rest of your body) is from corn? That's
right. Almost everything Americans eat contains corn: high fructose
corn syrup (HFCS), corn-fed meats of all kinds, and a wide range of
corn-based processed foods eventually make their way into every cell
in your body.
King Corn is an engaging documentary by two students who found
out they both had ancestors from Greene, Iowa (pop. 1015). The
movie documents their educational adventure of going back
to Iowa to raise one acre of corn--as well as their exploration
of the HFCS food chain. If you liked Supersize Me,
you'll love this film.
